跟屁虫... an experience as doggie foster

My short and sweet experience as a doggie owner....

Returning home near 11pm, after parking my car at the roof top of the multi-storey carpark, my missing mobile got me searching high and low in my car for near 5min...

Relieved to locate my mobile, I locked my car and turned and there he was! A shaggy-looking "mini schnauzer".

After feeding him some water, I continued my way home and trotting behind me was that 跟屁虫....

For the next 2 days, I went around the neighborhood to look for his owner, putting up notice, sending him to the vet to locate his embedded microchip, but no valild...

While we wait patiently and hopeful for his owner to come, it was a great experience to be a doggie owner for 2 days, walking him, feeding him, bathing him, playing with him or just looking at him sitting under the sun in my balcony.... He is so well-trained that he only relieve himself when i bring him out, never crossing the boundaries that i set at my house.... When we returned home to him, his thrill and happiness would be roof-high!

Knowing that I cant commit to him, i held back my feeling for him... avoiding all means to build bonds with him. It was really a tough task especially with his puppy-eyes.... he is always the 跟屁虫 of the house but yet keeping to the rules of the house... Too good to be true...

After 2 days, I decided to post ads on various pet forum with the advise by the cute stall assistant in Pet Safari.

And soon, a owner email me and with much verification done. 跟屁虫 finally got to return home happily....

According to the owner, 跟屁虫 aka Lucky ran away because he went on a chase with the stray cat... haha... i believe that.. he is really hyperactive...

These 2 days were a great experience being a doggie foster especially for such a well trained doggie... although mummy will never allow us to keep a pet dog ourselves, looking after 跟屁虫 was a great joy and taught me an important lesson about the bonding a dog and a stranger can have in such a short time....and I shall not forget his finally farewell "kiss" before he went home with owner... your gradititude is felt~~ Take care, 跟屁虫... Dun run away again!!

My Honda fit.. 1st car!!

After dreaming for so long... I finally bought my 1st car!!

Since young, my mum always taught me that "if u want anything, you have to work hard for it... study hard.. get a good job.. then u can buy anything that u like..."

This phrase has always been my motivation.. study my heart out for school.. strive hard at work.. Finally, this day has come!! I am able to own my 1st car!!!

Hopefully, this baby will be an angel.. I will be gentle with u.. and can u be nice to me....

Months I have spent tracking out for u, studying your characters... finally, my eyes landed on my dear you on a Saturday afternoon. My first trip to the automobile bay and faith brought me to u....

With this new car, my dearest mummy and brother will have more comfort as we swift down the roads to different places to eat and play~~

So many things have changed...

After almost 6 months of no activities on my blog, my life had indeed made a major change in these past 6 months....

In early Nov 2009.. i fell so sick with that i landed myself in the hospital for the 1st time in my life...

That was the worse experience of falling sick... I couldnt eat for the whole week and was running high fever for 9 days.. doctors even thought my brain might be damaged from the prolong high fever.... but rest assured i did the CT scan and my brain is PERFECTLY FINE!!!

Then on 29 Nov 2009, my beloved papa left us for the eternity life....

To tell the truth, the day remains a faint memory... maybe it is my way of forgetting the sad memories of papa leaving me... i cant even remember which date he left us.. maybe i choose to remember the good old days i used to spend with him.. when i was young and he is will forever dote me as his little princess... i believe till today, he is still overlooking me and my brother from heaven ensuring we are healthy and safe and happy at all times.....

the days of his wake, some scenes i really wish to erase from my memory... some relatives just disappoint me further... but i will not forget the warmth and concern i felt from many friends and my relatives and even the medical staff of SGH- PD center and KDF.. Thanks to all of u that i managed to pass those days without too much depression from missing my dad...

It took me alot of courage to write the passing of my dad on my blog.. cos maybe i still feel that he is still ard with me.. somewhere out there... sometimes, on my drive home after work.. alone in my car.. memories of my dad resurfaced and well... recently, my lessons at SGH, parking at the same carpark that i used to parked when i visit my then hospitalized dad.. the quite walk down the alley reminds me strongly of my dad and those time when i took care of his medical needs.... i was his little girl who he relied solely on.. he knew he could count on me for his needs...

there were the times when i had to managed my dad, my studies and work.. for those who wonder how i managed to study and work at the same time.. i had to handle large amount of responsibility since young... my studies and my dad.. so training since young on time management and knowing what to prioritize...

Till today.. i have walked out of my grieve but i still miss him quite badly.. although i know his passing would be a great relieve for him....

Now, Life goes on for me.. Changed to a new job institute early Jan 2010.. Experimental Therapeutics Center (A*Star).. working on the same research as i did in TTSH.. working directly under Masa and other doctors who will much better appreciate my effort... As for my Masters studies.. this semester is a breeze as compared to last sem... At least the things taught by the interesting lecturers and guest speakers are more related to my work and research project. Things kinda hit a bottleneck on my research project.. sample preparation stuff and my boss recommended me to make a major change to my thesis to Pyrosequencing.. Well, after some thots, i shall give it a try since i am used to such unanticipated and last minute changes since my FYP days... prof Lim did give an OkAy to that change. Hopefully, i will be able to finish up my thesis report by the end of this year and another graduation ceremony to attend to.... ^-^

When i was still a kid

dun know why.. but.. on a raining sunday afternoon.. i decided to flip through the stack of photo albums in my shelf... photos preserved all the memories of our... some we remembered.. while others we forgot... There were these few particular pics that spoke a thousand words... my childhood memories and my relationship with my younger brother...

Those were the days when i was the first internal grandchild in my paternal family... i was pampered and loved by everyone.. my parents, my grandmothers, my uncles and aunties... and that could probably inculcate some of my "always-daddy's-little-girl" attitudes....

I was told by uncles and aunties that since young i was a girl who wasnt afraid of anything... i greet stangers.. uncle.. aunties... i was always smiling and knew how to make the adults laughs with my cutie pie expressions... haha... well.. evidence were very well captured in the photos below...

After awhile my little baby brother came along into the family... i didnt see him as an intruder.. but i welcomed him like a precious gem... ever since i remembered... my parents have been telling me this: "no matter wat happen, your brother is the closest person u have in ur life..." and i have been living with this through my life.... he is my best friend in my life forever... that's y when my friends see me with my brother, they thought that we looked like a "couple" more than siblings.. cos we are so close... haha.. well.. that's the way that i was brought up...

as i grew up.. somehow i want to go back to my childhood days where people love me for who i am... innocent.. free from stress and problems.. as we grow up.. more and more responsibilities we need to carry... and sometimes it is this responsibility and expectations that bring me down.. but the resilience that i have in me will keep me going.... and once in awhile it is nice to ponder and remember the carefree and innocent life that i once led in the very beginning of my life....

HTHT session with the TRF gals

Met up with my ex colleagues from TRF on friday nite...

Updated them about my Africa trip... real HTHT session with them... told them all the interesting things that happened there... well... i just dun know why i am so comfortable with huiyi and baoyue... we can talk about all sorts of topics... even to the every details of our personal life.... hahha... maybe it is the chemistry and the fact that we are honest and frank towards each other... we give each other support and concern that i really appreciate.

when we 3 come together, we always have the best of time!! Last night was 2 hrs dinner at tampines then i drove to pasir ris park to continue our HTHT then to huiyi's void deck to continue part 3... haha... cant believe we have such endless topics....

so looking forward to meet up with huiyi and baoyue again... hopefully in September... next time round we shall go to race course road for even yummier food!!! even without good food we are still the greatest company!!

I Just love CApe Town!!!! Never i will expect myself to enjoy south africa so much.

The place is beautiful.
The people are interesting, friendly and warm.
The winter weather was perfect.

The International HIV conference presentation went smoothly for me. Received lots of encouraging compliments from the audiences after my presentation on my HIV project.

This is the first ever International AIDS conference tat I get to attend; my 1st biz trip; 1st presentation done in front of the professionals; 1st trip to Africa;... 1st...; just too many first time- happening in this trip...

IAS conference 2009:

During the conference, I was stunned with the pleasant nature of all the staffs and local volunteers displaying to all the delegates and speakers at the conference. They are always making sure that we are doing well and not left out in anyway. Never forget the big smiles i saw as I walked down the conventional hall. People ranging from medical doctors, researchers, social worker, NGOs and even those who lived with HIV gathered at this IAS conference to share the latest technology or research studies that they have found for the past 1 year. We all went with a common agenda, that is to give ppl with HIV in terms for medical, social and ecomical supports. One of the eye openers for me during the conference was how open the people are regarding their HIV conditions, they seems to know that only by been frank to the professional help there, they are benefitting. So much different from what is happening in Spore, where HIV is still a stigma in the society and ppl living with HIV are forever living in the dark.

My support for the HIV patients was rapid diagnostic tool tat is able to perform viral load detection in a miniaturized form so as to increase accessibilty to ppl even in resource poor areas. People came up to me after the presentation and told me that i am doing a great job to help the HIV patients. They are definitely in need for such rapid kits. Their words indeed encouraged me further to continue in the HIV field. Meeting different ppl at the conference opened up my horizon. It was like a bringing a singapore girl out from her little kumpong to the real complicated, colorful city. People with different backgrounds, agendas, needs and also approaches and their rationales behind what they do. All these taught me the important lesson of taking a wider approach to whatever I am doing. Meeting the HIV patients was the bonus for me. Getting to hear them speak about the problems and their needs was definitely a great help for what i worked on. Producing something to meet their needs. That's what technology is about: meeting people needs.

Safari Trip:

Apart from work, I managed to go for a one-day Safari tour to see the wildlife reserve in south africa.

As Dr Arlene still had some lectures that she needs to attend, I went ahead with the engagement tour that Ismail, the Compass Travel agency's boss arranged for me. It was this trip that I met many interesting ppl: Belgium gay, who is also the director for the AIDS awareness group in Belgium, 2 really lovely old couple from Australia, a brazil guy who was there for holiday, some americans, a MD professor from Puerto Rica. Despite coming from the diverse background we cliqued pretty well. WEll, i cliqued with the belgium gay and the brazil hot guy.... hehehe... Most of us were there took a day off from the conference to enjoy the great wildlife of Africa. hehhe... we all know the best combination of work and play~

Cape Point and Peninsula day tour:

On our last day in Cape town, both Arlene and I took a day off from the conference to explore the wonderful Cape Town.

First stop was shopping along Long Street and Wall street, where we bought the African handicraft. Arlene has her fancy over the doctors figurines, African tribal masks. Well, I go for the handmade bags and jewelery. Generation Gap. haha.. That's what explain our different taste for shopping items. hehe.. We bargain our way through the items. but it still seems pretty expensive. But since we are already in Africa... We didnt care more. After the long morning shopping at the street market, we went ahead to FOrks, one of the highly recommended resturants in Cape Town for African and western fusion food. A Tapas taster plate, a glass of wine and coofee costed only R60.. Good food, good price and excellent service. Sitting by the window, Arlene and I chatted about the experience we had for this Trip, we realized the advantages that it has brought for us and how it has broaden my vision... We enjoyed each other's accompany. Arlene was like a mother to my during the trip, cooking breakfast for me, making sure i am safe when i go out. But we cliqued well like sisters, we talked about alot of stuff ranging from my future to her daughter. She inspires me. The things she did and her envisions. She taught me alot about HIV medical issues which were really useful for my research work.

I am really glad to have gone with her to this Cape Town trip.

After lunch we went back to the hotel and await for our Half day Cape Point group tour that we have signed up with Ismail. To my surprise, instead of the group tour, we were given a private tour with our own chauffeur cum guide in a Mercedes Car.. WOoHoo~ THanks to Ismail for the special arrangement... Hehe.. (p.s i checked the tour price list, we paid S$90 but we enjoyed a S$300 value private tour) I am so freaking lucky that whenever i go oversea, unknowingly, i will meet some bosses and be close friends with them.

Along the way to Cape Point, we drove past the coastal line and the Atlantic ocean view was magnificant. CAmps Bay Beach, the surfers favorite spot. Clifton Beach. Hout Bay.

The main tourist spots that we went were Cape Point, the southern-most point of South Africa and also Simon's Island where we saw the cutest African Penguins that had returned from their day hunt to the beach. They were so close to me that with a sretch of my arms, i could feel them them. But Arlene said they will bite so i kept my hands to myself... or just constantly snapping the pics of the beautiful scenery, hoping to keep the best as memories.

soufflé

Rose and Strawberry soufflé

A soufflé is a light, fluffy, baked cake made with egg yolks and beaten egg whites combined with various other ingredients and served as a savory main dish or sweetened as a dessert. The word soufflé is the past participle of the French verb souffler which means "to blow up" or more loosely "puff up" — an apt description of what happens to this combination of custard and egg whites.

Influenced by Jimmy, who constantly being working in his kitchen over the past few weekends to sharpen his baking skills. Today afternoon, I decided to throw away my lab coat and put on my apron and make Rose and Strawberry soufflé... Crispy top and fluffy and cream filling... the rose aroma and the sweet-sour strawberry slipped through my taste-bud... nice....

Shall bring them to lab on monday to share with the guys in lab... hehehe... so them that I am still the true girl in the lab... i can cook de wor.... must beat the guys with all the baking and knitting skills.... haha... must make boss Masa change his way of introducing our lab to others... it is not "I have 3 guys in my lab....." it should be I have 2 guys and a gal in my lab.... hehe....

I will be leaving for Cape Town in a week time... finally settled all the accommodation issues and also the IAS 2009 conference presentation. Really glad to be given this opportunity to attend an international conference to present my project. A rare and precious chance for a fresh graduate like me. Masa and Jimmy told me exactly the same thing this week when i ask what they want me to get from Africa for them:" I dont need u to bring anything from africa.... the most important thing is for u to come back safely...." OMG.... 2 of them said the same thing..... so touched....

......Sometimes it just take a few words from them and I know they care.....

My first visit to TTSH eye clinic

the staff pass me a brochure when i registered for my consulatation... and u spotted Dr Yong's name card attached to my appointment card??!!

眼针... once again, my left eye had a lump developing under my lower eye lid about a month ago.. and as per normal, I left it alone waiting for it to break and the pus to discharge on its own... and tada... last week, it finally broke... I thot i will get my "beautiful eye" back...

but who noes...

this time round the bacteria infection got to my conjunctiva and my whole eye is swollen and red... and after taking 2 courses of antibiotics and no much improvement, i walked in to the eye clinic at TTSH with my GP referral letter...

TTSH has 2 eye clinics: one for non-subsidized and the other for subsidized patient. Being a referral case by GP and also recommendation by Dr Ng (my boss, a TTSH senior consultant), I had to go to the eye clinic for non-subsidized clinic located at the atrium.. Being a clinic that serve private patients, this clinic impressed me the very first moment I stood inside. The politeness, the smile and the right attitude the staff have over there to serve their patients, not forgetting the conducive environment and setting definitely deserve a thumbs-up!

I didnt have to wait long( 5 min) b4 I was taken to do an basic eye test, after that i waited only a mere 10 min and i was seen by the consultant, Dr Vernon Yong. He came out personally and asked for me and he opened to door for me!! OH MY GOD!!! Since when a doctor will open the door for his patient, (none in SGH clinics, GP..)

Dr Yong introduced himself to me before asking about my conditions. He was sincere and keen when he took a look at my swollen eye. He examined BOTH my eyes despite that i only complain about my left eye.. Totally different from the GP i saw prevously. At least Dr Yong made an effort to take an extra mile making sure that he does not neglect any possible infection in my right eye. During the examination, Dr Yong was very delicate and always asking if i was in pain and telling me that could be possible discomfort as he flipped my eye lid, adding of drugs to my eyes, cleaning the discharges... so thoughtful~~

I was told that there is still abit of 眼针 in my lower eye lid, but not serious enough to have a procedure to remove the pus.. I was prescribed with a steroid/antibiotics eye drop (which Dr Yong asked if I was pregnant cos i cant have steroid if I am... and of cos i am not..), oral antibiotic, eye lubricant and asked to go back for appointment 1 week later and given 4 days MC as this bacteria infection is contagious. Before leaving, Dr Yong said: "If u feel that your eye gets any worse, dont worry, I am only a call away..." Oh gosh!! I am so impressed.... This is my first time being served by such thoughtful and delicate doctor. Thanks Dr Vernon Yong!! This is also my first time to get a docator consultation that is longer than my waiting time.... I waited for 15 minutes for the doctor and the consultation cum treatment lasted for 30min!!!

Well, I have to say... to enjoy such excellent service, there is a price to pay. As a first visit to the TTSH eye clinic, I was charged $79 for consultation and $25 for the medication. WooHoo... so much more ex than the subsidized clinic that my dad goes to... BUT then, I think I am very willing to spend such money... better than to get myself pissed off with the long waiting time and doctor who does half past six job in subsidized clinic in SGH. Better mood= faster recovering rate...

hoping my left eye will recover soon... cos the IAS conference is 2 weeks away... have to fly off to cape town for the presentation on 19 july... I also have to give a miss to both my sec sch class gathering and RSp Elders K session this saat... dun wanna to spread this infection to theem... haiz.... I wanna sing K~~~ AnyOne wanna sinng k after i recover??? ^-oV

Taiwan Grad trip-Taipei (day 1-3)

Taiwan Graduation Trip (14 May - 25 May 2009)

After planning for almost 6 months, we finally set off for our long-awaited graduation trip to Taiwan. As for this grad trip, my choice of travel kakis are Jingjing, Jimmy and Bryan.. A very unique group.. cos jing jing is my BIE coursemate and RSP elders volunteer mate, Jimmy, my BIE coursemate, and Bryan, my RSP elders volunteer mate. Everyone plays a unique role in this group... esp bryan who really served as a great entertainer for us... his jokes and cold jokes never fail to bring laughter and joy to our trip along the way....

On the plane to tuan yuan international airport.... We took jetstar budget airline and due to my wrong judgement of the wing location, our window seat wasnt the best view... so our choice of entertainment on the flight was tai te... as me and jimmy were seating in front of bryan and jing, we had to kneel on our seat to play tai te together... 1 st time playing taite on my knees and the best rule of our game: the winner will buy the rest Chicken rice.. and the biggest winner on flight was Mr Jimmy ToH!!! altogether he had to treat us 24 plates of chicken rice~~

After we set our feet to taipei, taiwan, we took the FreeGo airport transfer to taipei city and check ourselves in to furturestar hotel.. After that we chong our way down to Ximenting which was only a 10 minutes walk from our hotel... I remembered how excited i felt during that time.. first time in taiwan and everything looks amusing to me... the shops... the people... the things they sell.. the taiwanese accent that i heard along the streets...

At Ximenting, the street was filled with lots of food stalls(ie. japanese, italian, indian), fashion wears, and also mobile stores selling taiwan sausages, cut fruits, BBQ meat. The amazing thing about these stores is that they are always moving as they have to avoid the health officers who were constantly around, but whenever we return to the center junction of ximenting, we never fail to see the same stores that just got "chased" away by the health officer around the corner.

Despite all the different resturant there at ximenting, out first meal was ah zhong mee sian and the traditional bubble tea. Following the taiwanese culture, holding a bowl of mee sian and our bubble tea, we stood outside the stall and enjoyed our first meal in Taiwan... Hmm... my honest opinion abt the mee sian, it wasnt as good as i expect it to be. The pig intestine was too chewy and mee sian taste like the one we had in spore. The bubble tea on the other hand is much better than those that we have in spore. At least for them, they have a wide variety of tea we can choose from. Their bubble tea focuses on the well brewed tea whilst our local bubble tea, the tea seems to be like a diluent for the different syrups..

After the filling meal, we started to explore Ximenting, I manged to shop for a vest and some cute cute pouch and items. Along the way, we spotted their cinema street where there are 4 main cinemas in taipei. To our disappointment, the streets went quiet after 11pm... to us, the nite was still young but then most of the shops have already closed. Aware of our early set off time the next day (to 阳明山 trekking), we decided to turn in early for our first day too. Along our way back to the hotel, we saw a line of youth equipped with mp3, poker cards, newspaper , queuing along the street.Familar scene... (hello kitty sales??!! Free gift??!!) but later that we found out that the kids were queuing for the limited edition levis jeans that will be release the next morning at 11am... WOW... Taiwanese are also willing to queue overnight for expensive stuff too~~

Day 2 (15 May)

After a heart warming breakfast, 高丽菜，鲜肉煎包 at a family style stall in front of our hotel (recommendated by the future star receptionist), we made our way to 阳明山 via bus and MRT.

Upon reaching the starting point of 阳明山, our first idea was to get hold of a 阳明山map. The signboard showing the Park reception(0.6km) was a total mislead to us. We end up trekking for 30 mins in the jungle before we could locate the park reception. I was shocked that the park reception is so inaccessible to visitors from the point we aligned from the bus. We already start trekking to get a park map!!! But i never expect tat was only an "appetizer"... The remaining trekking was indeed a killer!!! End up I think iwas th eone who held the whole group back.... the constant up steps was a true killer.... can never forget those steps.... because of me, we had to constantly stop for breaks. Thanks to the 2 gentlemen with us, Ye... dear bryan nv forget to supply us with drinks and also dear jimmy offered to carry my bag...

Following the local 林伯伯，we reached 七星主峰 after 5 hr climb... ermm... we were proud that the 2 city gals managed to conquered one of taiwan's highest peaks.. but whether it is worth it... i doubt so... maybe it is due to the mist.. the view was as fantastic as what the locals told us. AFter that we went ahead to look for 七星堆, a pile of 7 rocks stacked together, which some claimed that it was a masterpiece of the aliens... hmmm... great imagination!! haha.. Next stop was 小油坑, 為一處後火山活動地質景觀區. Along the trek, the pungent smell of sulphur was the most significant sign that we are near the sulphur mine.. Lucky for us, 小油坑 was a down-the-mountain trail.. at least it was a simpler task for me... at least I had the time to enjoy the scenery and view... So altogether, we spent 7 hrs exploring a tiny section of 阳明山.. Wohoo... i am still very proud to say that i have conquered 七星主峰 (1120m)！！

After the tiring trekking at 阳明山, we took the bus to 士林夜市 for an early dinner. We ordered 豪大大鸡扒，鱿鱼羹，蚝煎，臭豆腐，大饼包小饼, 粉圆冰。maybe we were too tired from our 阳明山之旅， the local delicancy wasnt as appetizing as others claimed to be...

After a quick bite, we went ahead shopping in 士林夜市. Shopping!!!! WooHoo~ As know by many, when girls are shopping they will alway bored the guys who accompanied them to death... well, that was pretty true... the stuff that me and jj were shopping for were totally different from the guys... and therfore we end up losing each other in 士林夜市。。。haha... jj and I continued shopping till near 1am while jimmy and bryan turned in early at 9pm... the guys were complianing that we gals can really shop despite our constant complains during the 阳明山 climb. Well, i have to admit, when i am shopping, the adrenline rush in me somehow numb my brain from the lactic acid ache in my legs from the earlier 阳明山 climb。哈哈~

Day 3(16 May):

We started our day early as we were advised by the futurestar staff to eat our train ticket to hualian in advance as the next day was a saturday and tickets would definitely sell fast. After getting our tickets we had our breakfast at the taipei train station.. where i got the cooked snacks from the hotpot of soup in 7-11. Then the trains stamping chops caught our attention and there we go... transformed into a group of kids constantly stamping the unique train chops over our newly purchased wooden postcards. hehehe.... little that we know that this stamping is a common practice in the tourist spot in taiwan. And I was lucky that i bought a souvenir notebook at the train station and started my "stamping activity" throughout our taipei city tour.

The next place we went to was 国父纪念馆。。 Groups of teenagers welcomed us at the doorstep of 国父纪念馆.. it is a common sight to see these teenagers gathering together and practicing their hip-hop dance together. The youthful atmosphere surrounding the museum indeed brings a new life to the museum. Museum is therefore no longer label to be "old and boring"

Next stop of our taipei city tour was: Taipei 101. From 国父纪念馆, we can easily spot this magnificent building . It is only a stone throw from 国父纪念馆. The interior of Taipei 101 is equivalent to our Takashimaya.. High-end shopping district.

After consulting our trust-worthy map, we decided to visit 新光三越, a common shopping district where the taiwanese artists would have their 签唱会。Jing jing and bryan were both keen to catch a glance of the taiwanese artists. And yes, we were lucky to see some models(unknown) promoting perfumes there. One culture shock I experienced was the "friendliness" of these minimally dressed gals.. especially towards guys and those weird uncles who were constantly snapping their cameras at them ( from all the unusual angles). U can imagine youself. There was one particular incident that i remembered about these weird uncles was when the host offered free perfume which was given out by the models. It was exactly like bees flying to their honey.. jing jing too when ahead to get her free share of perfume while i stood behind. But from the 狼狈look of jing jing trying to squeeze her way out of the crowd, my instinct tells me that the weird uncles are not squeezing to get the free perfume but just to have a close skin contact with the girls... OMG... gross~~~

On the other hand at the other stretch of 新光三越, it was utterly different feeling that welcomed us. Art was the word to describe the main activity there. There were buskers and, handicraft stalls. There was one particular busker that made me stop to listen to him play.

After the whole day of sight seeing, it was again time for us to do shopping... so we went over to 五分铺 and 师大夜市, 2 of the cheapest shopping area to go in taipei. 五分铺 is a wholesale district where the shops often offer cheaper bargain if their customers buy in bulk. But for us... able to get our hands on NT 150-250/ apparel is already a great bargain.. and most of their stocks for the stalls are very much similar so it will be up to us to do a basic "market research" before any purchase. Most the apparel are from korean and are of the latest street wear trend in taiwan... and yes yes.. by the time this trend comes to spore, i already own them and most importantly i got them at a pretty low cost... hehe... shopping therapy... i think i was pretty swift with all the shopping over there... it is only S$7.50-12 for a blouse... why not!! haha... jimmy was commenting tat I have 收获不少... haha.. i always used my oversea shopping trip to stock up my clothing supply for at least half a yr..

As for 师大夜市, it is near to their national Taiwan university, therefore their target audience are poor students just like us!! haha.. but there wasnt much to buy over at the portion that we walked.. we later found out from david that 师大夜市 is one of the biggest 夜市 in taipei, we have probably missed out the biggest area of it whe we shopped that day.. well... we can always go there again... hehe...

At around 10pm, we slowly made our way back to the hotel via taxi and we were lucky to catch the sight of the preparation work for the 175 游行 near their city hall. Roads were closing for the locals to go on strike regarding the unhappiness they have over their current president, Ma Ying Ju..

Back at the hotel, we waited for David, our nantou homestay boss to pay us a visit... well, actually to have a meet up before we see him at hualian. He was pretty nice to share with us what to expect for his part of the tour and to find out what our expectations are... then also he lent us his mobile phone so that it will be easier for him to contact us and also more us to contact the hualian homestay in charge... very nice of him!!! hehe.... David was pretty shocked that we are turning in so early that nite... it was a saturaday.. there were alot of parties available that he said that we should go... but having our early train schedule the next day, we decided to give the wild party in taipei a pass.....

湖濱小站民宿

During my stay in taiwan... we stayed in 2 different home stay.. one in 花莲 and the other in 南投。

I totally fell in love with the one in 南投 called 湖濱小站民宿 (http://www.lakeside.com.tw/main/data_a01/index.php)

This homestay is owned by a very young taiwanese guy called David. 29yrs old... came from a very rich family background. maybe that's y he gave us a very good offer. We paid him NT 3900 each for 5 day 4 nite accomodation (inclusive of meals and fuel and tour guide fee). After the stay at nantou, david offered us free accomodation at this taipei's apartment...

A passionate tour guide who goes all out for his guests... he is doing all these touring for his interest not for money. He understands the needs of his guest. He caters his tour for each individual. VEry much unlike the usual tour guide i met b4, he doesnt bring us to shops to get us to buy any of the expensive stuff, he makes sure that we spent our time effectively over at taiwan. He does his homework every night and discuss with his guest the next day's iternary and make sure that the place we are going are wat we wish to see. He works his way through his guest's budget.. teaching us the best way to spend out money; where to get cheaper stuff. Unlike the regualer tour guides who will drop their guest at a spot and pick them up 2 hrs later, David will walk with us through the different places of interest that we went. Despite his lack of experience in tour guiding, he still do his best of his knowledge to introduce different place to us. Most importantly, watever he does, 他是用心去做的. He treats his guests as friends, making sure that we have no 遗憾。。Being honest and frank are his trademark, if he likes u or dislike anything, he will say it out. That's reminds me to the part where, we got "lectured" by david for not eating enough in taiwan... Cant believe my ears, 1st time ever, being "lectured" by a tour guide, unlike other tour guide, they will probably not even bothered if their guest are eating well... but david is just different..... During the trip, He even ask us for the types of songs we like and he burnt a fews cds of songs for us to listen to during the long drives each day.. 很贴心的服务。。 . But he never forget about himself, by also putting his favorite song as the last track of the cd... haha.. he said it serve as a reminder that we have come to the end of the cd... he jokes with us.. share with us his facinating history... and sing karaoke with us.. htht with us at night .... he will make sure that his guests are happy.

That's the most important factor to me.....

Among the 4 of my grad trip kakis, I was the one who gets to interact with david the most, he will be frank with me about his thoughts. Maybe i was the one who contacted him b4 the trip, and i'm honest with what i say. Everything i speaks, they come from the bottom of my heart. Maybe 我也是很用心去认识ｄａｖｉｄ，将心比心。。。。　Maybe 2 of us are libras, we have very much similar characters.

I'm not the only one who is impressed with David's hospitality.. many of his other taiwanese guests were also very satisfied with him.... evidence below: obtained from his homestay website. I guess he's just like me, we do our very best for other ppl, many a time all we need is a "thank you" from the ppl we help, it will just brighten the whole week.. 多么辛苦都值得的！！　tat's y i never forget to thank david from time to time for his effort... and i can see that it does boost his morale during the trip....

Other that david himself, I fell in love with his homestay too.... It was totally awesome with the unique style and decorations.... It was almost identical to my dream house... it gives me a really homely feeling and a place where i can feel totally relax inside out.... as i have told my grad trip kakis, if i have my own house in th efuture, i will definitely get david to design it for me to be exactly like his homestay....

with a star viewing room, everynight, we have a sky full of stars accompanying us into our sweet dreams....

My favorite corner in David's homestay: his balcony that faced 鲤鱼谭，i will wake up early in the morning ard 8am to enjoy the serene, warm sunlight and cooling breeze while all the rest are still in bed.. with a warm mug of tea, i will just sit there and think thought some issues, about my life and what i really want to achieve. And i realised, i should not spend to much time thinking about how others think abt me , instead how i think and feel abt myself... maybe research is not really what i should be doing... i'm a people-orientated person... i love the nature... maybe i should follow David footstep... maybe in the near future, when i have enough money, i will open a homestay too... entertaining guests... enjoying life..... my dream.....

THanks alot David, as promised... i will definitely promote ur homestay to my friends who are gg to taiwan for holiday... and the next time round when u come over to spore, it will be my turn to drive u ard spore.... The nite after we returne to spore, when i saw ur msn msg that u missed us... i believed u... cos i'm also missing my time in taiwan... the beautiful scenery and the people i meet...

Hey hey... haven been updating my blog... too busy...

JUst got back from my grad trip to taiwan... a really long holiday trip... totally enjoyed myself at taiwan for whole of 12 days... Woohoo......

Will update on my trip soon... well, all the locals were stunned to hear about the way we travelled around taiwan... very different from most travelers... so they told us that we must keep a good record of it......

I'm missing taiwan already... well, i think i miss the scenery and the people the most....
David, our tour guide in nan tou, alishan, taipei. Super nice guy with lots of stories.. he's a libra so spotted many similarities btw the 2 of us... haha... he's freaking rich!!!!

Ganew, our hualian homestay boss, still there another wen jing ah yi (who refuse to take pic) very friendly couple who treated us like their kids.. very warm and homely people....

Lastly, my grad trip kakis (jimmy, jing jing and bryan). I enjoyed my trip becos i was with u guy... lots of htht.. haha.. love u guys...

On September 18, 2007, computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver a last lecture called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.” With slides of his CT scans beaming out to the audience, Randy told his audience about the cancer that is devouring his pancreas and that will claim his life in a matter of months. On the stage that day, Randy was youthful, energetic, handsome, often cheerfully, darkly funny. He seemed invincible. But this was a brief moment, as he himself acknowledged. Randy’s lecture has become a phenomenon, as has the book he wrote based on the same principles, celebrating the dreams we all strive to make realities. Life is getting tough at work....

Lots of pressure from my TTSH to publish the paper on my project... dateline is next tuesday... need to send my draft to the jap boss for editting.... my ttsh boss seems too keen to get started in a new project....

dont know what he is up to... but i shall not play any more "stunts" just go with the flow.... just dun noe y i seem to lost interest in my work recently... nothing that i will look forward to at work.. but luckily, it is still not to the extend of having to drag myself to work yet... hopefully there will be new sparks coming in at work soon....

i need to get a small cushion to support my back for my office chair... long hours of sitting on a lousy chair give me backaches....

I haven got my dnd attire yet.... just received an email from my department manager, they planning to change out table theme to 无间道。。。all black attire with dark shades... hmmm... easier... i already got a black jeans, a black jacket, a new shades... so i'm just need a black top... shopping!!!

I'm currently still planning my taiwan grad trip.... wofoo... not easy neh... alot to consider before making the decision.... ulitmately, i'm gg with my friends... not everybody will like wat i like.... but still i have to tidy up what is left... cos the remaining 3 are having exams... so i'm the free-er one to do all the remaining planning... hope they will like what i've planned....

70s coffee shop found!!!

After almost working in biopolis for a year, it was until this recent weeks where i found many eateries near biopolis selling cheap and yummy food.... all it takes is a trip down the hill and across the railway track....

Yesterday, me and kk told my jap boss to this coffeeshop under the HDB behind IMUNOS buliding. This coffeeshop looks like it still belongs to the 70s-80s of Singapore. With the old porcelain cups for a cup of kopi or teh, friendly hawkers and freaking cheap and tasty food (compared to Biopolis Matrix food court)... Nostalgic is the word to describe it all.... I felt like i went back to my childhood days... the good old days.... even my jap boss said that it brought back the memories of him when he first step his foot onto Spore land (which is about 13 yrs ago)

We order pork rib noodle which cost only $2.50 for a big bowl of noodle and so many big chucks of pork ribs served with a bowl of tasty soup.... Boss offered to pay for the drinks that we ordered, he took out $6 and we told him it is more than enough. he didnt believed (too much of coffee beans and rocky master's devil brew).. so when the lady boss brought the kopi O, teh c and teh to our table, boss was utterly shocked that it was onli $2.10 for all 3 cups of drinks. The drinks are of quality... even boss find the coffee's aroma good. I trusted him cos i could smelled it even when i was seated about 0.5 meters away from him.

While we were eating our lunch, the stall owner chit chatted with us, asking where we work, getting feedback about their food and drinks, asking us if we still want another serving of soup..... . I could see from boss's expression that he was shocked to see such friendly service in coffee shop. (i believe it is also his first time eating in a coffee shop).... so it is not always true that u have to pay for the good service.. becos this coffeeshop gave me good service with no extra cost.

While we were sipping our coffee and tea, i saw the drink stall aunty preparing toast bread.... and I couldnt believe my eyes.. she is still using the tradition way of making the breakfast set... toasting the bread over charcoal, spreading the brown kaya and most importantly, she didnt spread the butter with the kaya .. BUT she took the thinnly slice butter from the fridge and put them in between the warmly toasted bread... the same old way that i used to see the ah pek iat amoy street 6-8 yrs ago (today the ah pek is no longer selling).... I can still remember the feeling of each bite that i took, crispy and fluffy bread with the cool piece butter melting in between, together with the thick brown kaya.... YUMMY!!!!! Immediately, i bought 2 slices for my tea break. But i could wait till then, once we reached the lab, the bread was quickly grabbed up by me, kk and boss, with the bread going into our mouth, onli streams of compliments came out from our mouths.... and i decided to buy them again for breakfast the next day..

Along our way back to the lab, we passed by a a patch of land with plants growing till our knee height, KK was still saying how the lunch over at that coffeeshop brought back his childhood memory.. Boss suddenly said that this walk felt the same when he was back in Japan, Kochi (his home town) , the smell of the air, the breeze blowing on his face, the feeling of grass bushing against his legs.... the same feeling that he had when he was 8-10 yrs old, back in his little "kampong".....

It is rare for us to find such "good-old-days" feeling in the busy buzzing spore... really glad to find such nostalgic place in spore...

This morning, i decided to alight at commonwealth so tat i can walk over to the coffee shop to get my set of traditional breakfast from the same coffee shop.. I was surprised that the drink stall lady boss actually remembered me!! Later during lunch time me and kk went there again for lunch, this time round the drink stall lady boss and the pork rib stall aunty remembered us too.. the best thing is that the drink stall aunty actually remembered what i ordered this morning and asked if i want the same..... Isnt that just fantastic?? I dun even think the drink stall aunty over at the food court remember my order even i patronized her stall daily.... They even notice that boss was missing and asked where he was, well boss was having lunch with his jap friends over at the matrix food court.. and while we had lunch, boss called and complaint that matrix food court is a "rip-off"... hahha... he had the chicken noodle set that costed him $5.50... compared to the noodle he paid at the coffee shop yesterday, he realised how much the foodcourt is over-charging him.... haha.. i told him we can bring him down to the coffeeshop or even tanglin halt food center for lunch if he like... where we can get cheap and yummy food....

From today onwards, it will be either this Blk 73 commonwealth dr coffee shop or tanglin halt foodcenter, where u will see me during lunch time....

p.s. there is also a confectionery shop behind the tanglin halt food center that sell the biscults that i had when i was a kid, ie 耳朵饼干，小馒头，zoo biscult. That shop also see tradtional coffee and tea powder.. finally found the tea powder that my mummy and papa want (the one that taste like the teh-o u drink in coffee shop). The next shoppipng list item will be coffee powder, ordered my my bro...

did some magic in the kitchen last weekend... having my brother to cook for the weekdays... on the weekends, it is my turn to show my dad and bro what's the real cooking should be... so i whip out my cooking finger and TADA!!!

i cooked my first ever chilli crab!!! not bad wor... got standard taste just the one u can get in resturant... i did some magic with the seasoning... added tom yam paste to the sambel chilli and added sugar and tomato sause plus onion... abit of zing with that spicy feeling... yummy!!!

yesterday, after work at TTSH.. went shopping around novena square... and bought this korean seasoning for bbq meat... so today taught my brother how to prepare the meat.. add some chilli and onions to the meat and seaon it for 3 hrs... and when i got home, we did out own korean bbq with the hotplate.... it taste really good... well, we wrapped the bbq meat with lettuce and onion... yummy!!

my brother did complain that he feels like a sheep today... cos there was lots of greens... but is it wonderful to be able to enjoy tasty food adn yet feeling healthy abt it... haha...

I'M SOOOO PROUD OF MY CULINARY SKILLS.....

Known by many of my friends... I will not deny that i am a great fan of eli... love to listen to his songs... somehow, when i am unhappy, listening to his songs makes me feel much better.... therefore i always share with my friends all the nice nice songs he sang... well, he isnt a professional artist yet.. but he's on his way... wishing him all the best...

Just in case for those who dun noe him... shall do a short story with u guys.... I got to know eli during my rsp elders days as a biz manager... i was looking for sound system sponsorship for our CNY event and then i remember receiving an mass email advertisement about a sound studio (ZaiStudios) from charmaine... so with some strings pulling here and there abit of.. managed to get myself linked up to Eli who is the creative director aka boss of the sound studio...

I still remember the first time he called me to acquired about our club and the event... he called i think ard 9pm+ using his HP!!!.. i mean for most sponsos, they will contact me via their office land line and during office hr.. but he's different... and wat i am amazed is after introducing himself he asked: "how are u doing??" i was totally stunned... it was like a conversation to a friend more than a sponsorship biz call... normally, those sponsors will go straight to biz... but he's different... *impressed* through the phone converstaion.. i pictured a great ang moh guy who has the heart of gold... willingly sponsoring a sound system to us without much question asked (compared to other sponsored i spoke to b4)... it was after i found out that whenever he sponsor the sound system for us... he will have to close down one of his jamming rooms for the number of hours we borrowed his system.... this means no biz for those hrs (he rent out his studios jamming room at hour rate to bands as one of his revenue)..

on the day of our event, i went to his studio to pick up the sound system... he opened the doors as i was expecting an ang moh guy, but rite in front of me is a young chinese chap... fashionable and stylish guy... well.. the 1st thing i notice was his hair style.... (p.s i thot he was one of eli's assistant..) but it turned out he was Eli Tee... well u cant blame me for mistaking him... he spoke with an accent and his name looked so ang moh-ish... he's pretty western minded... when he speaks there will be "cool" here and there... super friendly to everyone.. then he even volunteered to go down with us to our event ground to help us set up the system...

During our drive down and for the event venue... had some chance to talk to him... it was our first meet up so everything was pretty formal... ask abt his company and he asked about out club, event, my job scope as biz manager...

Subsequently, i stepped down from my biz manager position, had to hand over the sponsors on my hand to the next committee... so i brought kelvin(next media head) to eli studio for a formal introduction and told him him abt my step down and kelvin will take over from then... as in he will be the one contacting him for future sponsorship... so i asked for his permission to give kelvin his HP number(I have been contacting him via his hp for all the sponsorship) for future colleborations... but he said he prefer me to call him for future sponsorship btw elders and his studios... well, i guess i understand.. he's using his personal Hp for all these sponsorship issues... i think he doesnt want his personal hp to be spread among too many ppl who may not noe...

so during Kelvin and raymond (current media head's event, they will call me to ask eli for sound system... and slowly we sort of proceed from "biz manager-sponsors" relationship to more of friends recently, he email season greeting... sms and call to send his greetings... shared his dreams of becoming a singer with me.. and also his studios future plans... and also his own composing and songs he sing in his ipod.. well, not in details.. but still he shares... one thing i remember each time he called or i call... he will nv forget to ask :"how are u doing?..." always do some catch up b4 going into the "biz" stuff... so as a friend and also to repay him for nv turn me down when i ask for his help and sponsorship, i was determine to help him spread his music creation with my friends.. ya of those who constantly hear me publisizing his work and songs.. now u noe why... pls dun misunderstand everytime i say "eli this... eli that.." he's a good friend i treasure and if u noe me well enough, u noe how i will treat ppl if they help me once... i'll make sure i will help them back whenever they need me....... gratitude..

I remembered once, when we send the sound system back to his studio... he was practising with his band... although me and my friends were standing outside the jamming we could still hear him sing.... super nice lor... after one song, he came out to invite us in to sit in and chill to listen to his band play and him singing... me and jj were thrilled... getting to hear him live... but them his band felt that they were not ready to preview their song to the public yet (which is us)... butg getting to heard him sing live earlier on with the walls separating us... i turned immediately to a little fan listening to her idol sing... haha... silly me....

Then this CNY event, i decided to try my luck to get him to come down to perform for the elders... initally i didnt put up much hope for him to come down to sing for the elders... after looking through his schedule he agreed to come down to sing... managed to get jimmy to be his acoustic guitarist... they practice together once and they seems to work out welli did so much advertising of him coming down to perform for us, but then due to a new job assignment that crop out, he end up not been able to sing for us... it was later i found out the new assignment was actually a concert that he's coming out with his friends...Beneath The Sheets - An Intimate Concert with James & Friends on 14 and 15 may @ the Esplanade recital studios... too bad i am leaving for my taiwan grad trip on the same day... if not i will definitely go for his concert... well, next time maybe...

firstly, an interview of him... spectrumtv .. it was only after watching this interview then i noe that he is doing quite alot in the music industry... writing songs for wilber pah, been the creative director for the asia release of High School Musical... and after the interview... u will hear him sing 2 songs.... onli 1 word: Excellent... meaningful lyrics... great singing... personally i like his singing alot..... unique....

Marley and Me

Went to watch Marley and me with my dear Suling yesterday... despite knowing that both of us will onli knock off at 630pm, we insisted that we catch the 720pm show at downtown east... and ended missing 10 min of the initial part of the movie... well, the whole part on puppy Marley....

Movie Summary:

As the snow falls on their wedding night, newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston) decide to leave behind the harsh winters of Michigan and head south to begin their new lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. They obtain jobs as journalists at competing local newspapers, buy their first home, and begin to make their way through the challenges of a new marriage, new careers and, possibly, the life-changing decision to start a family.

Unsure of his preparedness for raising children, John confesses his fears to his friend and fellow journalist Sebastian, who comes up with the perfect solution: John should get Jenny a puppy. "There's nothing to it," says Sebastian. "You walk 'em. You feed 'em, you let 'em out now and then."

Then came Marley.

The Grogans adopt the cute, twelve pound yellow Labrador, who in no time at all, grows into a 100-pound steamroller of unbridled energy that turns the Grogan home into a disaster area. He flunks obedience school, chews off dry-wall, takes a bite out of the sofa, overturns garbage cans, steals a Thanksgiving turkey, consumes pillows and flowers, drinks toilet water, and chases the UPS guy. Even a newly-purchased, expensive necklace isn't safe from Marley's voracious antics.

Amidst the mayhem he generates through the years, Marley sees the Grogans through the ups and downs of family life, through job and home changes, and most of all, through the myriad challenges of a growing family. As John and Jenny come to realize, Marley - "the world's worst dog" - somehow brings out the best in them.

I will say that there is lots of chemistry in the movie, regardless it's between Owen wilson and jennifer aniston or with Marley, the dog.. the story is more about the facts of life rather than just a a cute puppy show.... it shows how 2 couple learn to cope with changes in their life... planned or unplanned... my favourite line in the movie was the one where Jennifer aniston said to Owen wilson: "U are always wanting wat u dont have and not appreciating wat u currently have..." it just struck my mind.... am i like that too??.. many a time i am constantly trying to get wat i dun have and forget to appreciate wat i already have.... then how marley come into the story, Marley was a trouble-maker in the family, but the Gorden family learn to adapt to him and to love him more than anything.... it resembles a true family, noone is perfect in the family, when one of the family members made mistakes or is unique in his ways, the family learns to adapt to him and to learn how we can love him even more.... i see myself in many parts of the movie... it's a great walk of life that the movie is taking us through... it carries just the right pinch of laughter and sorrow....

glad that i didnt miss this marvelous movie.... shall go and see if i can get the book too... heard from many that the book give a different perspectives of life too....

Mummy not at home

Took half day leave today to send mummy to the airport... she will be going to her china hometown to visit her elders sister... While we were sending her off... we can see how her heart is lingering here in spore with us... worrying whether me and my bro can cope without her at home for 1 MONTH... before entering the custom... she keep reminding us abt wat we need to for the house work... eat properly.. dun sleep too late... ask me to take good care of my brother and dad... When she crossed the custom.. she kept turning back and waved.... with only a glass panel between us... i really wish she didnt go... i miss her... but i cant be selfish.... after 22 yr, this is the first time my mum will not be at home for such a long period of time... the whole family has been heavily dependent on my mum all these while.. the logistic stuff, housework, look after us when we are sick, worrying abt our studies... well... it's really time for her to take a break and enjoy herself... Hope she will make use of this hometown trip to relax and stop worrying too much abt wat's happening at home.... i believe she will not stop worrying... cos she's our mummy.. all mums will worry abt their kids no matter how old their kids are....

So from today till 11 Apr... i have to be an independent young lady... learn to look after my family like wat my mum has been doing... it is my turn now... yes mummy, I can do it... dun worry... 我长大了。。。(ya.. i noe alot of u will think that it is too late for me to only to realise that i need to be independent.... i have been the little girl in my family all along....)

p.s i hope i can wake up by myself and be in time for work... haha...

Stupid mistake....

Well... everyone makes mistakes... including me... most importantly we must learn from our mistakes... and i learnt it the hard way.... Posting this so to remind myself not to repeat these mistakes again.....

Lesson 1:

Colleague K:"when 2 smart ppl come together, they become stupid"

Totally agreed.... i am one who tends to think too much or i infer too much about what ppl say... till the extend i misunderstand their intended msg.... and i missed the main focus of the conversation....

My Jap boss as been consulting me regarding the employment of his new staff using his new grant... i understand that he is urgently looking for ppl to start work asap. Currently, he depends heavily on me to get some of his research done.. but ultimately i'm still a under another doc boss, whenever i work for my jap boss, i am actually volunteering my service... but i'm willing to do... cos with every experiment, my jap boss is giving me a chance to learn and experience.....

but recently, one of my project collaborators from IBN gave me an job offer that will secure my career for another 3 yrs with a promising career ladder...In this economic crisis, who would want jon security.. furthermore, this IBN job is actually wat i wanted as my first job last dec...bcos it deals with wat i study.. Bioengineering.... but last dec, the grant wasnt available yet... and the HIV project already has a grant ready to employ me so i didnt wait for IBN.... my current TTSH contract will onli last till the end of this yr... My first response when Juergen told me abt the IBN job offer was :"can u hold this offer till Dec??" I dun want to "betray" my doc and jap boss if i terminate my current contract.... but every time i meet Juergen, he kept asking if i have submitted my CV...even in front of my boss... he even email me the detailed job description that he sent to IBN HR for job advertisement... alot more details than wat the actual ads was shown to the public....

A moment of selfishness, i submitted my CV to IBN........ not long after, My jap and doc boss found out... both were not happy by my move.... I felt super guilty that day.... I nv mean to hurt them, especially my jap boss who gave me so many opportunities and also taught me sooo much.... On that day i felt so sorry that i nearly cried when i saw my jap boss so angry... or i should say disappointed ..... I'm really sorry....

After talking to my mum and friends, i feel that i should at least have a proper talk with my bosses esp my jap boss abt my submission of CV to another company when i am onli in my 2nd month of employment... before i could say anything the following day, my jap boss was super nice to me... after work, my boss treated the team for a drink... and during the drinking session... he shared a story with us... abt his favorite employee who was his first female lab assistant when he first came to spore 15 yrs ago... how she seemed to know what boss is thinking... how great their chemistry were in terms of working relationship, knowing which reagent my boss needed next... just like a "worm in his tummy". Then he made a statement that just touched me deep through and also sent a great sea of guilt in me... He said: "Sue Yuen, take this as a compliment, U are just like her... u know me too well...." OMG.... I'm so touched to hear that and immediately i felt tat why am i leaving for someone who treasures me soo much..... immediately i wanted to tell him that: "i rather jump over to ur flagship research grant if u are willing to take me on... and most important, I'm sorry if i disappoint u with my selfish act..." as wat u always say, "smart monkey will also drop down from the tree... and i just had a great fall... and i learnt my mistake....."

I should not have being tempted by ppl so easily without considering how fortunate i am rite now.... u are the one who offered me my first job, U keep a lookout for me all the time during my job hunt last yr... Furthermore, our definition of WORK is almost similar: Work is to make ppl happy; to help ppl; salary is to compensate ur effort....

Lesson 2:

Love is blind...

Recently, ppl ard me has been in and out of relationship issues... either wooing.. being woo... or broke up.. rejected...

Did you know that when you’re in love, dopamine gives you the same feeling as when you would use cocaine? Every time you see your love, you get a shot of dopamine and it’s addictive. Everyone who has been in love knows they wanted to see the one they were in love with again and again and again....

and many time it can be this hormone, dopamine that blinds u from seeing the truth of who your love is... u may blindly ignore some of his/her bad habits or character that u cant even accept... U think that such issues maybe minor.. but not until a third party starts to analysis the situation to u... bcos most of the time , ppl who are involve dont see the big picture.... but if during each meet up u seems to spot one bad habit that u find it unacceptable... or worse u find that communication becomes an issue...... well, will it be better to end it before it hurts too much??

It has been a long break since i last blogged...

Well, i was pretty busy last semester, FYP... countless modules, reports and presentations to do... nearly got crazy and stressed up with the heavy workload..... but finally they are all over!!!!

A little update about myself....

started working in TTSH-CDC in Jan.... although i'm a TTSH staff but i'm physically working in Biopolis, back in my IA lab.... really lucky for me to get a job b4 i even graduated... thanks to my IA boss, masafumi who intro this job to me... thanks, boss... it is really not easy to get a job nowadays...

Although i'm back to a familar workplace... but my super nice colleagues are no longer there... now, i'm stuck in a lab with my IA boss... he pretty nice... telling me crappy jokes here and then... other than Masa, there is also a new colleague, KK... well... wat can i say abt him... he's super hardworking!! really noe how to wayang.... haiz.... i onli left with to work as hard as him and try to make less mistakes in front of my actual boss, a doc from TTSH...

After I started working in the lab... life did change a little.... getting more happening... haha... partying and having lots of fun... especially last week...

shall update more next time...

my next plan is to go for my taiwan grad trip in mid may..... and maybe to africa for HIV conference in June..... WooHoo!!!

A very special day... 26 Sept 2008

26 Sept 2008... a very special day to me.... cos it's the day i turn 22.. haha... and i had the most wonderful birthday with my Elders volunteers....

Started my day driving around spore to get all the sponsored items for our MAF event. Get to meet Eli and thanks to Jing jing, got a chance to take pic with him... haha... thanks buddy... Eli is pretty imoressive wor.... start his own studio... song composer and also a very supportive sponsor to RSP elders... whenever, i ask him to help us out... he will try his best to schedule his studio work for us.... just one sentence: ELI is just super nice!!!

After the event, abel and yinru took out a huge Bday cake... OMG!!! I'm so touched.... and surprised... haha... It is indeed a memorable bday for me... get a chance to celebrate with my dear friends from Elders... Thanks to my mum and bro who help to arranged this surprise with yinru.. and the cake is delicious!! rum+ dark chocolate...

Finished my HRM quiz... Engineer and society presentation... innovation and tach presentation... must reward myself for suviving the worst week of my education journey...

Yup... and the reward will be slacking off my butt for the next 2 days... then a trip to batam with yinru, kelvin and wendy... yes... shopping therapy!!!!

My recess week is fully booked! Monday: WSC appreciation dinner, Tuesday: FYP report, Wednesday: Career Networking @NTU, Thursday: PRof comm meeting cum dinner with NTU clique, Friday aka my 22nd Bday!!! : RSP ELders MAF, Sat & Sun: Study for stem cell quiz.....

I cant wait to graduate!!!!!!!!! I'm tired of school!!!! Especially NTU-BIOengineering!!!!! Wasted my time studying and onli to realised now that there is no career prospect for bioengineering degree.......

cant wait for my shopping theapy on this sat.... lots of things i wanna buy: formal wear, shoes, my bro's shirt, bags.... the lists goes on.....

Busy is the only word I can think of my current status...

FYP report, prof com, Engineer & society, nano assignment, and i'm still counting....

Final sem is not as smooth as i have expected it to be... taking up 20 AU of modules was peanuts to me when i was in yr1 and 2... i managed to cope with the datelines of numerous assignments... quizs.. revision.. and even Elders activities...

but now, i think my time schedule is abit screwed up..... time to rearrange my time according to priority

As more and newer people coming in to my life, i realised i tend to forget my dearest family and my buddy... spending less time with them... how could i? My mum and my brother have been nagging me abt treating home as a hotel... returning home late... shower.. turn on the laptop....sleep.... I feel bad too... i miss the time where we lumped ourselves on the sofa and chat about crappy things or things that happen in sch... especially my brother.. now i onli have the breakfast time to talk to him.. catch up with him and listen to his funny jokes.... he just noe how to make me smile... he understands me... he may nag at me more than my mum... but i noe it is out of his concern.... I feel really blessed to have such a wonderful brother.... thanks bro...

Last week of my holiday.....

Monday:

Went out with my BIE clique for a K session @ Teo Heng @ Katong... something that we had been wanting to go since year one... but we just didnt make it happen till monday... haha... it was fun hearing hy singing hokkien songs, sh singing in her little cute voice, jj and rs sang well too... they all had hidden talent that i didnt noe till this k session...

WE brought along some snacks and also a bottle of red wine... oh boy... we really noe how to enjoy life.. ^-^ all at a great deal of $7 per person( booking of K room @$37 and the wine)

We sang for 6 hours but by the 4th hour... we were dying.. except for sh who was still singing non-stop... she's pro....

After our K session, we went over to Aston for a yummy and yet cheap dinner... did some catching up... overall we had fun.. at least i felt some bit of our chemistry coming back after spending half a day with my clique(minus hy)

Wednesday:

My first trip to batam... after hearing sooo much about batam from my dear colleague, huiyi, I decided to venture into batam with my mum and charmiane. We just took a ferry to Batu Ampar(45 min ride) from harbour front center. Took a cab for RP40K to Nagoya Hill shopping center.. As we were a little early, we went to a coffee shop for branch- mee soto.. not too bad.. abit salty and spicy..

@ ard 11.30am(or 10.30am batam time), we started our shopping spee at this huge shopping mall... They sell a wide range of products from IT to appreal to imitation branded bags, perfume, hypermart

Got myself some polo tee, formal wear, perfume and snacks... Shopping is always teh best therapy for gals.. haha... spend until not enough need to borrow from my mum.. Spend a total of S$150 in a day... OMG... i need to be more careful with my spending from now on...

After hours of walking, we dinered in at 933 seafood.. seafood so so lor.. but they are freaking cheap!!!!

Thinking of going there again.. maybe for their water sports and massage and stuff... anyone wanna go? let me noe!!!

Friday:

TRF's D&D (dinner and durian!!)

A lab outing with my boss and colleagues on the same day as our company's D& D... we had our own version of d& d aka dinner and durian..

we book a SMART MPV taxi for the 5 of us... hopped on... and we made our way down to No Signboard resturant at geylang... on teh taxi.. my and hy were a little over-excited... made too noise until teh taxi driver had to on the cartoon to keep us quiet... lol..

At the resturant, we ordered a few dishes... i think the waitress was a little pissed off when we kept changing our dishes as we ordered... and we didnt order seafood dishes in a seafood resturant... we had fun chatting... taking pics... laughing at one another... boss blend in pretty well with us... although he did say that he felt like an "uncle" when he is with us...

After our dinner, we proceed on to our 2nd D: DURIANS!!! I leaded the group down the geylang road... based on the instruction i got from char... even streets are the "u-know-wat" business and odd streets are where u can find all the yummy food...

B4 our trip, boss did request for a short "sight-seeing" at geylang... so we brought him there... a wide range of gals were standing by the walkway: short/ tall, thin/fat, young/old... i felt a little unsafe and uneasy as i walked down those streets.... as i was leading the group, all of a sudden i wished there was someone i can like hold on to for protection sake.. but.. couldnt do that to boss rite.. eventhough he was walking slightly behind me... quicky walked through a few more streets b4 we crossed the road to our dear durian stall....

At the durian stall, we excotted boss a a seat b4 me, by and hy moved over to choose the durins. it was indeed an interesting experience as the stall owner choose the durain for us.. yelling at the durian to make it taste better... a durian with both sweet and bitter flesh..

While we were choosing the durian, the stall owner kept commenting that mickey mouse love to eat durians... it was onli after sometime i found out he was refering to me!! cos i was wearing a mickey mouse t-shirt.... lol...

Honestly, i love hanging out with my colleagues... I can really be myself when i'm with them, no longer having to worry that any words that come out of my mouth would irritate anyone.. my colleagues and 1 are able to take others' comment as it is.. nothing serious... we have nothing in between us.. no back-stabbing... where can i find another group of friends-colleagues like them...

After the D & D, me, by and hy went to white sand Mac to chat... girls talk... i practically shared everything with them.... and they are franked to me too.. giving me their opinions and thoughts about all these issues.... 3 of us cliqued so well since my 1st day of attachment... eventhough i have onli know them for 6 months... I felt that we were like friends who have known each other for ages....

School starting for me... it's my final sem... i'll tresure the time i have left with my friends in NTU....

The Singapore HeritageFest is an annual signature event organized by the National Heritage Board's Outreach and Education division. Sound stories 2 is one of the programs lined up in the Singapore heritage festival 2008.

I saw the ads on I-weekly magazine abt this concert held at Vivo City. It was a FREE one-night-only concert celebrating our homegrown, popular Chinese music genre. Xinyao (新谣). This is the unique music genre composed and performed by Singapore's youth in the 1980s-1990s. When i was growing up, these songs were constantly being played on my mum's old radio. When i took the chinese lyrics in yr2, which was taught by 梁文福(many ppl called him the father of xinyao after he had written over 200+ songs).. he showed me a deeper meaning to xinyao. From then on, i was crazy over it... from songs to drama.... just love the meaningful lyrics that the xinyao singer have written...

So i decided to go to the concert with Char and Abel... Met up with Char in the afternoon for shopping first while we wait for abel.. After the our dinner at Kim Gary Cafe, we proceed to the amphitheatre. We were each given a orange wristband for identification purpose. Love the atmosphere there... open-space concert... Since there was 1 hr more b4 the concert start, it was photo-taking time!!!!

@ 7pm, the show began.... Reminisce on Xinyao's history with the musicians as they play notable songs and share their stories about the Singapore music scene from the past. Performing artistes include Pan Ying (潘盈), Li Fei Hui (黎沸挥), Brenda Teng (邓淑娴), Cai Lilan (蔡礼莲), Zheng Zhan Lun (郑展伦), Ye Ge Zi Xiao Zu (野鸽子小组), and 4 Superstar Finalists (绝对SuperStar决赛歌手).

Some of the songs（mostly written by 梁文福） they sang did bring up some of my memories... time i had with my friends in my primary and secondary days. We sang along with some of the "younger" songs like 關懷方式，懈逅，等你等到我心痛．．. but there were also songs that sound totally foreign to us... but we still enjoy ourselves there.... the concert ended with all the performers singing 城裡的月光 with the audience waving our lighted Hp... Only one word to describe the whole event. SUPER!!!!

P.s <<天冷就回来>> will be showing again next april.... cant wait to go watch it again... the last time i watched it with suling.. i totally fell in love with it... my previous entry abt it.. anyone wanna watch with me again?

after biz fin exam

finally.... finished my biz finance exam... a super crash course on business finance... the bonds, stocks, NPV, IRR, call option... hahha.. This course indeed gave me a clearer and deeper understanding of the stocks and investments in the finance world. Something useful at last..

After the paper, my clique met up to have dinner at holland village. we planned to have the famous XO fish head bee hoon. Maybe our clique have not met up for almost 6 mths, things were kinda cold and "shy" between us. Seriously, this clique of friends i have is really different from those i had with other ppl. We are considered a clique merely because we stick together as a group of gals in campus. I dont really seem to understand each of them, maybe except jj who i can crap with and talk more abt.. we have slightly better frequency than the rest and also maybe because we are in the same cca.. As for the rest, i dun really noe them in depth. maybe they are more conserve and are less willing to share them with us... i guess everyone is different.

Well, at least after today's short dinner (everyone was tired), we are planning to have a K session next monday after noon at katong 1-7pm... hope that this k-session will spark the chemistry back in us... and hope that all of us can stay on throughout the whole session not like today....

I'm onli left with 1.5 weeks of holiday before sch reopens. Soon, i'll be busy again with sch work, reports, sending resume... fyp.... hope i can still find time to enjoy myself before school start despite the pack schedule i have ahead.

p.s. just realise that i onli manage to blog my Hk trip till day 2... shall continue soon on day 3 to 5's trip . hope my memory will not fail on me.

It was either FYP or my Biz Finanace modules that occupied my time.... but i did spare some time out to watch superb movie 10 promises to my dog last Tuesday with abel.... met him at TM after my biz finance lecture... Finally for once, i manage to grab a proper dinner b4 the movie... For the past few movies I watched, me and my colleagues had to ta bao our dinner in...

Summary: Akari is a 14-year-old schoolgirl living in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido. One day, a puppy wanders into her yard, looking lost and frightened. She is a Golden Retriever with white paw markings. Akari names her Socks. Akari's mother consents to her keeping the dog but only after she agrees to keep 10 Promises to Socks . Akari enthusiastically assents and the two begin their journey of growing up together. Akari finds herself having to overcome many changes and challenges: the tragedy of her mother's death, father's sudden resignation, first romantic feelings, career ambitions and her independence. But at every step, Socks is there to provide unquestioning love and support.

We see her grow from a cuddly puppy to a strong and intelligent dog, as proven by her prowess in the “look-over-here” game, in which a person randomly points to a direction while the other person (or dog) has to look at the opposite direction to win the game. As time goes by, she even becomes close to Akari’s father, Saito who initially has a fear of dogs. Socks eventual role as a therapy dog is evident when she attempts to heal Akari’s best friend, Hoshi who is struggling to pull himself together after an accident. Also noteworthy are the social issues highlighted in the film: family against career (Saito having to carry out his duty as a surgeon while spending time with Akari for their get-togethers) as well as personal ambition against parents’ expectations (Hoshi being forced to pursue a career as a classical guitarist according to his father’s wish). These issues are interwoven perfectly with the storyline as they affect Akari and Socks’ friendship directly and indirectly, giving viewers some food for thought.

Before the movie, Charmaine told me that this is going to be a teary movie... well, indeed it was.. for me, it was towards the end when Socks aged and the dying scene was unbearable.. Tears just came rolling down.... i wasnt the onli one crying... abel cried too.. Surprised... i usually thot that guys are not so easliy affected by the emotions of movies... maybe there are other reasons(beyond the movie) that made him cried... i dun noe... Throughout the movies, there were scene that really make u go "ooooo... so sweet ... so cute.." and a sweet sweet feeling just developed within me.. hahha.. It is indeed a movie that make the viewers undergo emotion roller coaster....

I would recommend all gals to watch this movie... but make sure u bring in tissue paper..

For the sake of my FYP, i had to stay overnight at IMCB lab to take measurement of my samples every 4 hour... Boss was a little over-concern about me staying overnight... for the whole day, i kept asking if i had bought dvds, alarm clock, jacket... hahhaa... just like a father reminding his daughter this and that.... but it's really nice of him to allow me to use his lab for my fyp experiment... he even offered suggestion and was willing to guide me along the way... He has changed alot since i last complaint about him on my blog... He's now a super good boss.... really..

i managed to hang in and stay awake till 3.30am!!!! Thanks to my friends who chatted & entertained me online.. and not forgetting my colleague, Huiyi's DVDs... Decided to catch some sleep before my next reading(@ 7am)... first inside aunty pok guak's room... but then half way through it was frezzing cold.. really frezzing cool.. it was as if my organs inside me are all shivering in cold.. no choice i want out to the office and slept on the noisy couch.... despite setting my alarm at 6.55am, i didnt managed to wake up.. hahaha... alarm doesnt work on me ... hehehe.... luckily, got abel's morning call.. but 1 onli managed to pick up the phone after 1 missed call... hahha.. if not i'll just sleep right through lor... Thanks abel... owe u one... hahaha.... cant imagine wat if i slept right through and ppl coming in the work and see me sleeping in the office.... hahha

after taking the measurement... went down to the gym to shower.. then breakfast at matrix... the cofffee and the shower were onli effective in keeping me awake for abt 1.5 hrs.. by 10am.. i was getting super sleepy and grouchy... but i still had to go for my biz lecture in the afternoon... dragged my feet there.. but surprisingly, i managed to listen to the 3.5 hr lecture... maybe miss a slide or 2 in between ... but i could actually close my eyes and absorbing the info in at the same time.... I didnt noe i can do that... hahha...

K session with the Elders volunteers...

Last saturday, after our elders session, we (from different batches) went down to Katong Shopping center for our K session... We left the home at 4pm while I drove all off them to Katong using my dad's pick-up... along the way, that bryan kept "complaining" that there is no air con at the back... but i told him he got free air con by sitting at the back.. the wind breeze as the pick up moved...hahahhaah... We reached the place at 4.30pm.. had our early dinner at the food court... we had "boneless" chicken rice, but there's still bone.... and it cost pretty ex... $4 per plate...

Earlier that week, I have booked a medium room, expecting to be able to fit all 10 of us. but to our surprise, it was only a confortable room for 6-8 persons... so no choice we got to squezze.....

Nevertheless, we had fun singing... with the cosiness in that room... Chia Wen and Siqi( the juniors) sang really well.... Talent spotted... No forgetting the guys, eugene, sir seng and bryan.... Wah... they can really sing too.... they are pro..... Next time, the committee will know who to look for when they need ppl to perform for the events....

I guess this k session was a great bonding session among the different batches as we get to interact among ourselves... One thing i realised during the session was that no matter how shy they were initailly, everyone just joined in the singing after 1-2 songs... especially tian tao, raymond and yuanxing who initially said that they dun want to sing end up singing.. without peer pressure... seriously... i guess we were "close" that we dun mind others hearing our horrible singing.. hahhahaha... It just came out naturally.... Even guys and gals there dun mind singing duet together.... hahahha.... (Unlike the time we were in Kukop.... we got to drag and beg ppl to sing.... haiz...)

We went on singing from 5pm to 10 pm.. paying $68 for the room... plus the food and drinks we bought from sheng siong, we paid onli $8 per person... that's freaking cheap.... hahahha... i'm still living up to my name as a biz mag... lol...

Day2: 9 June 2008

OCEAN PARK!!!!!!!!!!

Took MTR from Jordon to admiralty(using Octopus card) with the help of their stuff... super helpful and serve with a smile... unlike singaporeans... Then considering the time and the no. of us going, we took a taxi to Ocean Park instead of Citybus...

We spent the whole day there... it was hot and humid... almost dehydrate... but it was fun and wild... Will let the pictures do the talking....

As it was a public holiday, there was hugh crowd and long queue all over the places... the Underwater world was totally packed that u cant even walk without getting ur face sticking to another person's back... As a result of the crowd me and suling got lost from my parent s and bro for an hour.... it was so freaking funny la.. when we told the customer control station that we lost our brother and when we told her he was 18 yrs old... hahhaha.. but after that we found him again....

As my parents were too tired, they seat under teh shade while the 3 of us went round the park trying out the rides... pretty normal but due to the crowd, they cut down the time of each ride.. so a bit not shiok.....

After the Ocean park, we decided to return to the hotel to freshen up b4 we proceed to the next place... We went to Wooshong temperary market to eat the da pie tong that my mum wanted... the old fashion type... they serve delicious food like the bi fong tand crab, roasted goose, seafood soup, garlic steam scallops at very cheap price....

After that, we took the trusty MTR to back to HK island to try out the tram and the mid level escaltor and walk along lan kwai fong....

After that we went back to Kowloon/ Mongkok to do some shopping... they sell lots of stuff... from t-shirts to imitatioin bags, pen to shoes to accessories... feel free to bargain with them..... we got a Gucci bag at Hk 60... hahahha.. converse shoes at Hk 100... Mont Blanc pen @ HK$ 50... seriousl, i shopped till i drop....

by 11pm, stall starts to close and they wont bother to do any biz with u... cos they will be fine if they operate their biz beyond 11.30pm.... but there are some who will continue and this is the best time to chop them further.... HAhahah and that was wat we did.....

Hong Kong trip(DAy1)

It has been 17 years since i last visited Hong Kong. I was only a little kid when I previously went there... all i remember was the Ocean park. After sooo long, I made sure i'm going to walk through Hong Kong like no tommorow...

Day1: 8 June 2008

Flew off to Hk on Jetsatar at 6.15am from Changi terminal 1 with my mum, dad, little bro and my buddy, Suling. 4 hrs was hard to pass when u are cramped to a seat with limited leg space. however, my eagerness to reach HK outweighs all the discomfort.

We took the hotel shuttle bus to Shamrock hotel located at jorden (somewhere in between TST and Yau Ma Tin)... Lovely hotel... excellent service... They even offered to do a free upgrading of rooms for us due the inconvenience of the renovation ^-^

After settling down, we set off to to temple street to have our lunch... we walked all the way to look for Mido Cafe which was highly recommended.. Turned out that it was closed due to the dumpling festival. So we decided to eat at a nearby cha cheng teng. We had wan tan noodle, fishball noodle... love the milk tea and almond drink... Yummy ^-^

Next we walked along the streets of granville, kimberley, Cameron in tsim sha tsui. Along the way, there were lots of warehouse sale selling cheap and fashionable outfits... I bought a grey vest from one of the shops at Hk$80. Only disadvantage of these shops is that they dun allow shoppers to try on their products.. There were also lots of shops selling beautiful products... hahaha.. ai mei de wo decided to grab hold of a box of facial mask too....

by 8pm, we made our way to Avenue of Stars.. I was amaze by the night scenery... The laser show "A symphony of lights" wasnt that fantastic due to the cloud that was blurring out the laser...

After that we took a cab to Temple street as my mum couldnt wait to try out the da pai tong (roadside hawker) After walking up and down along the street, we coudnt find the wuloo da pai tong that my mum saw on HK drama. After asking a local uncle, he brought us to this stall that he claimed to serve the best food in temple street... Well, it wasnt too bad.. but too salty...

After that we continued to shop the temple street selling lots of stuff like toys, bags, necklaces , t-shirt, footwears.... and even sex toy!!!!! At the end of the day, I bought a bag and BAPE t shirt.. Fulfilling already... ^-^

Accuarancy of Death aka sweet rain

Story:

Chiba (Takeshi Kaneshiro) appears seven days before a person dies an unexpected death. His job is to observe the person for seven days, and then decide either to 'execute' or 'suspend'. Getting his work quickly out of the way, he goes to the listening booth of a CD shop and indulges in his favorite pastimes, listen to 'humanity's greatest invention' : music. He is... a Grim Reaper. Today, again, in the rain, he waits. His subject, her death due in seven days, is Kazue Fujiki (Manami Konishi), 27. She works for a manufacturing company, in the complaints department. Exhausted after her day, she emerges from her office. It's time for the Reaper to go to work.

This movie was so highly rated that it was full house when me and my colleague went to watch it over at PS. We had to sit at the forth row that gave me a stiff neck and shoulders after 2 hours... However, it has a nice plot... showing how the Grim Reaper decides on the fate of 3 persons at different genre. It is onli till the end of the movie then u will realised how the 3 stories were linked. A pretty slow paced movie( nearly fell asleep half way through the movie), not advisable to watch it at the end of a tiring day of work. However, it is a movie that trigger one to think about life and death.

As a shinigami, he made his life-and-death decision based on a very important factor: Has this person fulfil his/her purpose in life? I strongly agree with the way he made his decisions. Having a purpose to live in this world is the most essential. Like an OL needs to live on to realise her dream to be a wonderful singer... a teenage boy needs to live on to reunite with his mother.... a old lady to live on to meet her grandson... During the movie, it made me ponder whether the decisions other people made for you really determine how your life will turned out to be. For the shinigami allowing the OL to live on has changed her life so much... Maybe during the journey of our life, the people we meet could turn out to be the shinigami.......

A sweet romantic movie.... sometime that make u go "oooohhhhh..." and giggle at the things that a guy will do to woo his bestfriend back. The story seems to be pretty applicable to life. Most guys dont seem to appreciate their female bestfriends as much as they should... They took these girls for granted that they will always be there for him forever... It is only when they are about to lose them then they realise how important has this lady is to him and how much of a place she took in his heart... hmmmm.....

Patrick dempsey is really cute and looks fantastic on this movie.... really charming.... hahhaa... A must-watch movie for patrick dempsey fans and also for girls who have a crash on their guy bestfriend... cos after the movie.... I guaranteed a smile will be on your face that u cant wipe off... and the sweet sweet feeling in our heart that last the whole day and maybe the next too....

RSP Elders Rally...

We had our very first RSP ELDERS Rally today....

Pretty good response form the juniors... glad to see that they are so enthuestic to take up the committee post and to lead the group..... I can still remember the days when Yongxin had to beg us to take up committee post... and us have to psyco our 10 remaining juniors to take over the committee... THinking about that... I should really thanks yongxin who brought me into the committee as the biz manager... Without this chance, I will not have learn so much things like getting sponsors... meeting new sponsors cum friends.... organising events... Furthermore it transform me into a bubbly person.... hahhaa...

Back to today's rally.... sally and chai wen ran for the biz mangaer post... priscillia and I were discussing wat qns we should shot them with... we wanted to make sure that th eright person was selected.. cos biz mag plays a big role in most of the events... If he/she doesnt do her part well... the elders will not get as many sponsored items during our event.... Sally was first up... knowing that her attendence for the elders event wasnt that regular, it was a big minus point for her... she seems to be a very soft and shy gal.... to nice that i dun think she can handle the companies... She suggested that she wanna get money from sponsors instead of items.... hmmm.... try harder.... Then it was chai wen, she is currently taking the role of the biz mag in the dumpling festival... when i aske dher how she go about looking for sponsors... I was pleased that she did something that was very similar to wat i did previously... that was to walk around the supermarket to find items that can be very useful to the elders... smart gal..... I also like the way she protray herself.. confident... something the sponsors look out for when we talk to them...

Next up was the center head.... Wow... total of 4 persons ran for 2 center head posts... Raymond, sirseng, siqi and meiying.... I was impressed by meiying and sir seng... Initally i wanted to vote for 2 of them... but then raymond is someone who i know better... maybe with tat i can bond better with the next comittee.... furthermore meiying mentioned that she can work well with him... so i decided to vote for the 2 of them... But i hope that sirseng can be part of the committee too... he's a great guy... bubbly in nature... i believe that will help him retain more volunteers and minimise the turnover rate....

Lastly, it was the post for the coordinator.... as i have expected eugene was the only one who ran for it.... he is very similar to bryan... friendly, funny.... something that draws people to him... both bryan and him will find no problems in getting help... people will just rush forward to help people like bryan and eugene.... That's y i supported eugene in becoming the next coordinator...

After the rally, it was time for us to vote... we did our little vote and the juniors left... Eager to know the result, we stayed behind to have a brief look at the votes... for the biz mag post it was very obvious... but for the center head... each of them had their own supporters... so we wil have to wait for the rest(those that were absent today) to vote via email b4 we can confirm the vote... as for the post of the coordinator.... 2 actually wrote bryan name again... hehehhe... he's really a lovable person... hahhaha... but luckily for him... those 2 votes were insignifcant... but yet it is signficant enough to show how good he is that the volunteers want him to lead them again....

As for now... we shall wait and see....

p.s.. to yinru and kelvin .. i hope that reading this entry will not affect our votes... hahhaha...

Discovering the Southern ridges...

The southern Ridges comprises of a 9km chain of greenery, open spaces spanning the rolling hills of Mt faber park, Telok Blangah Hill park and Kent Ridge Park before ending at West coast park..

It is an area steeped in history and is home to some of the nature's greatest gifts of flora and fauna. It is also one of the best spot in Singapore to catch the panoramic views of the city, harbour and the southern islands.

The three new linkways( Henderson waves, Alexandra Arch, Forest Walkway) at the Southern ridges costed S$25.5 million to bulid!!!!!!

Started off at Harbour Front MRT, me, my mum, my brother and charmaine trekked up the steep and endless stairs of Mount faber. All of us were put to a physical test while we climb our way up. It wasnt an easy job for someone who has been sitting in the office a day long. Well, me and Charmaine had to stop to a few times before we reached the peak of Mt Faber.

By the time we reached the top, we were totaly drenched. But the magnificant view and the cooling breeze at the peak took all our fatigue away.

While we were enjoying the view, my mum went all excited and commented that she can actually look into the windows of the condo at the bottom of Mt faber with telescope that were fitted at the edge. True... but no free show for us that day... all the curtains were drawn tight shut...

Along the way, we saw the jewel box.... a hotel on the peak... their guest were having a cool ride up th esteep slope while we climb our way up... "-_-

After tat we came to a split road, as u see in this picture below, this is how the sign looked like... we were suppose to go to henderson waves... the sign for henderson waves and telok blangah rise were pointing to this downward stairs... thinking that we finally get to go down-slope.... YEah... so happily we went...... but....

Along the way down the stairs, the group of people who were walking ahead of us turned back. They told us that we were walking the wrong way... my mum didnt believe and she went on exploring while we stood and waited for her..... and indeed we were walking the wrong way!!!!!!!!!! NO choice... we had to climb all the way up again.....

Finally, after an hour climbing... we finally reach the HENDERSON WAVES...

Next, we proceed to the Rooftop garden... well... nothing much .... a pretty good place for wedding photo shots... with all the colonical feeling...

After another 10 min walk, we reach the enterance of th eforest walkway... a metalic bridge that was constructed basrd on the growth of the plants there to minimise cutting down the plants there.... The metallic structure was a constrast to the nature. Well, they should have used something more wooden instead... Along the way, there were sign telling us the different species of plants and its usefulness.... It was already noon when we walked on the forest walkway... It was freaking hot... my hairs felt like that they were burning.... My brother and I were pretty tired by then........

The forest walkway leads to the Alexendra Arch which spans across the Alexandra Road.... It is indeed the one of the best looking bridges in singapore... It will even be light up at night.... through the display pic we saw there... it will definitely romatic place for couples....

Lastly, we reach the hortpark, where there were lots of excellent flora display.... I love this part of our whole journey... although it was really hot.... the sun was perfect for many of the photos we took.... so enjoy...

After 5 hours of hike... we decided to call it a day... as the weather was getting unbearable... so we decided to leave the kent ridge park for our next visit.... I will definitely visit the hortpark again... to take more pictures of the beautiful scenery....

Water and Wine bar

The wine bar.... aka Water and wine...

Boss was in his bestest mood last friday... so he decided to treat me, baoyue and huiyi a drink at the wine bar located in Biopolis...

Out of our expectation, the wine bar waas pretty packed as compared to the empty shop we see everyday... About 80% were ang moh... they are the ones who know how to pamper themselves and relax at the end of the day... how i wish i could be like them....

There was this one-for-one promotion over there. It's not like buy 1 get 1 free... it's more like one person buy a glass of wine, they give u the 2nd glass for free... so yup... i had 2 glasses of sweet wine that day.. Not too bad.. initally, it tasted like any other alcohol drinks... but then, after each slip, the sweetness and the fruity taste began to surround my tongue. the waiter who recommended me the drink said that sweet wine is more of a lady wine, lesser alcohol content... We also had some side dishes like sausages, tarts, Italian cheese, new zealand cheese and BLUE CHEESE... I actually fall in love with cheese that day... i think cheese really goes well with the sweet wine I had... well, as for the blue cheese aka mouldy cheese, it's way too salty for me... so i shall stick to Italian and new zealand cheese next time.... As huiyi couldnt take any alcohol, boss ordered this "fine" water for her... it costs $6 for a bottle of water from japan.... nothing special... but the bottle look very classy... we were served with their slanted drinking glasses.. unique... sometime imperfect matters can look beautiful...

While we were drinking, we crapped alot among ourselves and also with Boss... everyone was in their relax mode... i think it must be the alcohol... Boss no longer put up his I-am-the-boss look, we chatted like friends... laughed like good old pals... it kind of a nice feeling to be able to do such things with my colleagues and boss....

We decided to call off the day at around 8.30pm.... well, time flies when ppl enjoyed themselves... 2hrs of fun just flew by .... The moment i stepped off my high chair, my first experience of drunkness hit me... Abit of wishy-washy feeling... had to steady myself before i walked.... Wah... that's the effect of 2 glass of wine in me... I'm one pretty lousy drinker... hahhaa... but baoyue also had the same feeling.. so i'm not alone... hehehe ^-^ As huiyi was rushing off to her cousin's wedding dinner, we shared a cab home... by the time, i reached home, i was back to normal... maybe my body managed to metabolize the alcohol along our way home...

Five Year Old Blind Genius Pianist

I was super touched after watching this video... Five Year Old Blind Genius Pianist.

Yoo Ye Eun who can't see from birth but can play the piano after listening to the tune just ONCE! Currently, her teacher is only a COMPUTER!!!!! She depends on what she hears or what she have remembered to play every piece of music. Her talent is unbelieveable... she can accomodate to anyone who is singing any play according to the singer's tune... I was really touched when she sang that song: You are born to be loved... OMG... I wonder if there is any good teacher that is willing to further develop Yee Eun's talent.

The worst time in IMCB.....

I feeling totally depressed yesterday..... all because of my stupid boss and stupid attachment project.......

After spending nearly 2.5 months on my dengue project, my boss decided that he wants to give up on it. Y??? for a bloodly reason that he had reach a bottleneck and cant think of any other idea to solve the problem that we faced rite now...... it's like rubbing salt on my wound when he said that i was the one who wasted his time... and waste taxpayers' money.... how much taxpayers' money did i waste with my peanut pay of $600 a month.... whereas u take home a 5 digit pay a month.... The worse thing is that he claimed that i keep too quiet for the whole time... and wait for him to lead me...... wth... I'm only a bioengineering student...... not a science student..... and what position to i have to lead him.... Not that i kept quiet the whole time... For a couple of time, i did make some suggestion to him... but he simply ignore them..... or he will use my suggestion and make it sound like he was the one who thought of it...... **&@^$#

Then yesterday, before i went home, he said that i should go home and think of how i should troubleshoot the dengue problem.... ok.. i said i'll go back and think of something..... then the next thing he said was:" go temple and pray real hard then maybe u can come out with an idea"..... my mind nearly explode.. i just walk off after his comment.... wtf.... did he think that i'm so bloody stupid that i cant think of something on my own and i need the power of god to do so.... gth... *#^&#%))@#${& Along the way back, i talked to my colleague, BY abt it.... I was really depressed by the whole issue....... i felt really demoralise after the whole day at work..... Being an attachment student means u have to be a cheap labor.... work long hours but low pay... this isnt enough... i still need to be the one responsible for all the mistakes that happened in the lab.... The morale level of the lab was in the deepest valley...... Everyone except the Boss's bootsucker,V was feeling super sian.... how I wish all of us were to leave Boss and let him and his boot sucker die together......

I went home and i looked through my log book for all the possible ways that i can improve on the situation... I was determined to find something useful to shut up boss's mouth the next day..... i will never let others look down on me no matter wat happened... After spending nearly 5 hrs, i finally came out with 3 proposals........

This morning, the first thing i did in the office was to type out my proposal... but...... my 5hr+2hr of effort and brain cells were wasted...... Boss didnt even bother to look at them..... when i propose my ideas to him, he just brush them off like dust on his table...... then i decided to change my tone to a "i-am_god-damn-serious" kind.. then he decided to listen... and i got to speak like turtle in order to send my message across to him..... During the whole discussion, he ignored my suggestion..... ok... fine...... then again.... he said he thought of a good idea... a better spot of the Dengue primer...... and wth.... that was the same thing that i was trying to tell him earlier on......

well... fine.... i'm just trying to release all my frustration here..... feeling slightly better now....

Counting down to 6 June le....... 45 days to go....... cant wait to go.....
